Decorating with glass is a good idea in principle but difficult to implement in practice. The reason is that glass artwork and glass decor items are much less common than other types of decorative elements for the home. Moreover, since glass is distinctive for its transparency and sparkling nature, most people are not accustomed to using it. A short exploration of where to find glasswork and what things are available can help you narrow down the possibilities best for your home.
One place to find glass work is to reach out to local artists. Many artists have set up stores or online venues for consumers to view their wares and buy them. You may wish to consider walking on foot to a brick-and-mortar, as glass has a tendency to break during shipment. Artists may also form collectives to pool their resources to sell their wares.
A example of glasswork for the home is a glass lamp shade. These come in different shapes, as varied as the cone lamp shade, the student shade, and the school shade. On top of shapes, glass lamp shades can also come in various colors. Most famous amongst these are the Tiffany lamp shades which are made of iron rod and stained glass panes. Tiffany lamps are renowned for portraying scenes from the natural world.

Unless you have had a system similar to this previously in a home you would not believe just what a huge alteration it can generate to the look of your residence at nighttime.
A low voltage landscape light system is perfectly straightforward to install and look after that you would not believe how singular everything are going to appear in your backyard once it is lit up.
You might go for spread illumination that is going to light up an area of backyard generally and not identify any specific part.
In some ways it might seem like a communal garden or recreational area where illumination makes it feasible to walk daytime or nighttime, noticeably a smaller size but just as attractive.
The helpful thing concerning low voltage systems is that the energy, i.e. 12V, is small enough to be quite harmless. It is so harmless that you could possibly have the lighting on when you are placing them to greatest effect. There is no risk to you.
One drawback I should want to mention is that the lighting furthest apart from the electrical device will not appear as intense as those nearby.

Getting Started
Obviously, if you’ve never attempted setting up an outdoor Christmas lighting display before now, you probably could use a few tips on how to get it underway. Most people’s biggest concern is working with electricity and if this is a first time, some safety tips are in order. Check with an electrical professional to get some guidelines about what you should have in the way of equipment and safety in order to get started.
Small home owners have an easier time of deciding how to go about decorating their property for the holidays. After all, it only takes a small number of lights on the front of a small home to make an outstanding showing. Add to that a few wreaths on windows and the front door and perhaps over the garage door and you’re all set. You will probably be shown some very energy efficient lights to get you start on the right foot to participate in the “greening of the environment”.
Ideas for your first Outdoor Lighting project
If you would like to accentuate your front stoop or porch, a small lighted tree in a beautiful planter or holder is very special. Sometimes just the front porch light on this particular decoration is enough to emphasize the display.

The key to success with most projects is to clearly identify from the start what it is you aim to achieve - and installing solar garden lighting is no different. Do you want to increase security around your property, provide courtesy lighting for visitors, entertain family and friends, or quite simply make your garden more appealing at night?
You might of course choose any or all of the above plus a few other ideas of your own, which means you will also have to figure out how to balance various competing demands on your solar lighting layout. So you can see then that specifying your various objectives upfront makes it a whole lot easier to divide your outdoor spaces into discrete zones and identify suitable light fittings.
Solar deck lights for example won’t deter many intruders (though these highly versatile little devices will function very well in many situations such as path or drive markers). Equally you probably don’t want bright floodlights on your entertaining areas, and while low level coloured lights look lovely as decorative features in the garden they won’t help your guests see what they’re eating or drinking.

If you are in your backyard, garden, or other outdoor location, you can enhance your experience with paper lanterns. Unfortunately, however, if the outdoor location you are has high humidity, it may be filled with irritating bugs, especially mosquitoes. Bug spray only works so well, for it burns and stinks.
Instead of bug spray, you can use your paper lanterns to protect yourself against mosquitoes. Just buy a mosquito repellent candle to put inside of your flame-lit paper lantern. These candles are available in many different sizes and shapes in many stores, and they each have different ranges of effectiveness. The usual ranges are anywhere from five to ten feet.
When you are using paper lanterns to fight against mosquitoes, you must set them up properly and use an adequate number of them. First, you need to know the range of the candles you are using. If you do not know, check on the box the candle came with; if it did not come in a box, and there is no information on the packaging or label, then check with the manufacturer. Once you set up the candles, ensure that there is a one-foot overlap in the radii of the effective ranges. The last foot has the weakest protection, and by overlapping, you are strengthening the weakest point in your defense.

How much do you know about solar lighting? Most people don’t realize that it can be used both indoors and out. While many of us may not have considered using solar power to provide indoor lighting, it is becoming a growing trend world wide. It is a great way to save both money and energy.
Solar power has been being used, in one way or another since the 7th century BC, but the technology behind indoor solar lighting is still very young. Still, it is being used more and more often, especially in the United States to light small, remote structures such as in parks and natural reserve areas. Since these types of locations are very difficult and expensive to supply with conventional forms of lighting, they are perfect for this application. Indoor solar lighting is becoming more popular as more and more businesses in America are utilizing the technology as well.
Today most industrial indoor solar lights are a combination of light tube technology and solar powered lights. In some applications light tube and solar powered lighting is used in security sensitive areas such as prisons. The fact that light tubes can transfer a lot of light into an interior room through a very small opening makes them perfect for this application. Combining these light tubes with solar powered lighting creates a hybrid lighting system that is unmatched in effectiveness and efficiency.

If you are looking for a simple method to extend the time that you spend in your outdoor places, there’s positive news. You can actually achieve this with some simple pathway lighting that will brighten and liven up your footpaths, stairs, shrubs, garden devices, architectural components, waterfalls, and decks.
There are three main elements to landscape lighting: the light fixtures, a transformer, and some low voltage electric cable. Each is important and you can buy most at a hardware store.
Your first step is to lay out the components.Arrange the path lights along the walkway you are lighting. Then take the low-voltage cable and string it along the lights and up to the transformer, going under or around any obstacles you may encounter such as trees or shrubs. Leave the cable loose as we will be encircling each fixture with a small loop of wire before burying it. The lights are typically around six to ten feet apart and your 1st light should be at least 10 feet from the transformer.
Digging your ditch is the second step. You should use a flat bladed spade head to make the ditch. It should be at least three ” deep so you have room for the wires.
