One of a home’s greatest threats comes in the form of termites. Being aware of these insects is the first step in termite prevention. Understanding what attracts termites can help in termite prevention and seriously reduce the risk and prevent the need for expensive termite control. Unfortunately, many home owners simply aren’t aware that their home is already a target.
One type of termite, subterranean termites, lives underground. Unlike drywood termites, they cannot live without access to moisture. They prefer to move directly from the ground into wood. Termite prevention begins by looking for any wood-to-ground contact. If the wood cannot be moved away from the soil, then the soil might have to be moved away from the wood.
Sources of moisture are another key to termite prevention. Moist wood attracts termites like a magnet. Look around your home for sources of moisture. If water collects anywhere near your home, find a way to divert it away from the structure. Often this results from rainwater runoff, or gutters or downspouts needing repair.

In the south shrub and tree planting projects are about to get under way. Everywhere people are beginning to recognize the economic and aesthetic values of shrubs and trees. This is particularly true of trees. Large producers of forest products are planting vast acreages with trees; the owners of woodland plots are utilizing every available acre; and the occupants of even the smallest lots in new developments are planting young trees of various kinds.
When I recently visited the state forest tree nursery, I learned that the more than sixteen million seedlings grown last season did not nearly meet the demand.
Our towns and cities are growing so fast, they are literally bursting their seams. Real estate developers have to reach far out beyond the suburbs, taking in large areas where there are either no trees to start with or where, in the process of preparing for construction, it is necessary to remove most, if not all, of the trees. Most builders and developers are apparently doing what they can to save the trees, but in many developments most trees ore sacrificed.

Ideally, permanent planters are part from an architect’s plan and are less costly to install while the house is being built. But planters can be built into existing buildings at any time, to serve the same decorative or functional purposes.
Some planters are sunken, so that the plants seem to be growing out of the floor; some are raised, on top of a counter or low bookcase, so you look at the garden from eye level. Planters can be recessed into a wall, to create a vertical instead of horizontal picture. In all kinds of planters, alone or combined with other types of plants, vines have many decorative jobs to do.
In a contemporary glassed-in entrance or breezeway, for example, a planter garden makes the house more attractive from the outside, and welcomes the guest. From the inside it integrates the entrance and the yard or garden beyond the glass. The fluid, flowing lines of vines can be used to complete this effect.
Raised planters can be used to divide large rooms into smaller units without cutting down on the spaciousness the larger areas were designed for in the first place, or to screen off kitchen or dining areas without darkening them. Here, vines climbing a support give the impression of extra height; or they fill unsightly gaps between upright plants and the container.

Garden paving slabs are a nice way to improve a residence from the outside. A paver is a stone, concrete block or brick that can be used to lay a flat surface such as a patio, walk or driveway. Some of the pavers interlock with sand in between each block to lock it in. Once completed this type of project is beautiful and will make walking outside definitely a moment to enjoy a breath of fresh air.
One type of paver to use in the garden is the brick paver. This type of paver is about four inches by eight inches long. Some companies are making bricks with a spacer built into the side of it. They have started to create more pavers like this due to the success of the interlocking paver. The bricks are layed out and the joints in between each one are filled with sand. By putting the sand in between it locks the brick in but it gives it some room to adjust to the shifting ground. This type of installation is sturdier than just placing bricks side by side.

When most people think of Mexican food, they do not usually include seafood. Mexico is full of seafood, however. With six thousand miles of coastline, how could they not include seafood? Mexico is located in between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The Gulf of Mexico provides many miles of coastal fishing. Mexican seafood is a staple that those of us unfamiliar with the country do not often think about.
Ceviche is something you should try if you go to Mexico. This is a dish made of raw seafood that is mixed up with salt, onion, chili peppers, and cilantro. The juice of a lime or a lemon is added and allowed to marinate. The acidity of the citrus juice changes the protein in the fish just like cooking does. Of course, sometimes some ingredients are cooked first due to safety reasons. You can enjoy ceviche by itself, as a topping for crackers or as a filling for tacos.
When fish or shrimp is served in the Veracruzana style, the seafood is simmered in a seasoned tomato sauce. The seasonings may include capers, olives, and chilies. The result is a tangy dish with some spice. It is often served with red snapper or shrimp. The area around Veracruz is well known for its many seafood dishes.

Gaining some driveway paving knowledge is a good idea before charging headlong into the task. There’s a lot of good information out there to help you make the best choices for making your driveway look as good as you can. One area of knowledge that’s very important, is in the cost of the process. Many homeowners will face these decisions sometime in the maintenance of their homes, so it’s good to know a bit about it.
Anytime you go to figure your costs for driveway paving, you need to know how big your driveway is. These measurements will help you to figure out how much material you’re going to need. The next decision is going to be just exactly what material you’re going to use. Will it be concrete, brick, or asphalt for instance. Whether or not you’ll use color or a sealer are other things to address.
With concrete, the average driveway paving measure in cost, is around $3 to $5 for every square foot. This is for just the standard broom finish. If you desire to have it colored, then you can tack on $. 50 to a $1. 00 for each square foot, and about the same for the sealer. If you want to add to that a ’stamped pattern’, then it can cost you anywhere from $6 on up to $9 for each square foot.
